Every July, The Delaware Handicap features fillies and mares that are ages three and up. The Delaware Handicap is a one and one-quarter mile race and carries a purse of $1,000,000. In 2005, horse racing fans were treating to a powerful horserace when Island Sand rushed across the finish line to capture the $1,000,000 purse. Island Sand won the race by 3 and ¾ lengths.
